Former Troy City Councilor sentenced in election fraud case
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Former Troy City Councilor Kimberly McPherson, 61, of Troy, was sentenced to one year of probation in an election fraud case on Friday. McPherson also faces a $1,500 fine and a $100 court clerk fee.
McPherson previously admitted to casting absentee ballots in other people's names in the 2021 elections. She pleaded guilty to identity theft for illegally possessing and using another person's means of identification in both the primary and general elections.
The defendant successfully ran for re-election to the Troy City Council in 2021. As part of her plea agreement, the Department of Justice said McPherson agreed to resign from the Council. She is the sister of former Hoosick Falls Police Chief Robert Ashe, who recently retired and pleaded guilty to official misconduct.
