Edgar Davids says he was in awe of his former Tottenham teammate
Edgar Davids admits that one of his former Tottenham teammates was up there with the best he has ever played with.
The most underappreciated player in PL history?
Many Spurs fans will have already guessed that Davids is talking about Tottenham legend Ledley King.
Despite not even being able to train during the latter part of his career due to his knee problems, the centre-back would be the best player on the pitch nearly every weekend. King was also ahead of his time, being a pacy, ball-playing central defender at a time when that was an extreme rarity.
Tottenham fans always had a feeling of safety when they saw King’s name on the teamsheet on a matchday, as the Englishman exuded calm to the backline and marshalled his fellow defenders impressively.
Edgar Davids makes Ledley King admission
It tells you all you need to know when a player of Edgar Davids’ stature expresses awe at a player, but that is exactly what he said about the former Tottenham defender.
The Dutchman played with many of the greatest players of his generation but he referred to King as someone who was on “a different level”.
Edgar Davids said: “I played with Ledley King. I played with a lot of big players… because of his knees he couldn’t have that longevity, but this man could play. It was different levels, it was levels… levels! He didn’t need to tackle, he was quick, and he was there, positioning.”

Ledley King was a player’s player
Davids is far from the only former player who raves about King, with so many who played with and against the Spurs legend waxing lyrical about him.
Just recently, Darren Bent also spoke in glowing terms about the centre-back, insisting that he could have played for Real Madrid if not for his knee problems.
