Tottenham star is ‘definitely’ on Man City’s transfer list – says former scout
One of Tottenham Hotspur’s best players is reportedly on the radar of Premier League champions, Manchester City, according to former Spurs scout Mick Brown.
Pedro Porro for Tottenham
Anyone with a Fantasy Premier League team will probably have had Porro in their side at some point during his time at Spurs because he is a defender who loves to attack. He took the Premier League by storm last season, with three goals and seven assists, which is not bad going for a right-back.
Porro has found this season trickier so far, failing to secure a goal contribution since Tottenham’s first match of the season against Leicester City, while like fellow full-back Destiny Udogie, his defending has, at times, been called into question.
But most Spurs supporters will agree that Porro is the best right-back the club have had in years. With his intelligent crosses into the box and pace down the wing, he will not be an easy player to replace, so Postecoglou will be hopeful the club can keep hold of the 25-year-old.
Man City are interested in signing Pedro Porro
Porro recently hit the headlines when he was linked with a move to Champions League winners, Real Madrid, and now he is on the transfer wishlist of the Premier League’s reigning champions.
According to former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, Manchester City are looking for an upgrade on ex-Spurs fan favourite, Kyle Walker. As such, they could look to re-sign Porro, who was previously a Manchester City player before his move to Sporting CP, despite never playing a game for the Citizens.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said: “He’s definitely one of the names on their list. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them get that one over the line at some stage.
“They’re looking at strengthening in that position, and it’s an area they’ve identified as a potential weakness in their squad after Walker’s mistakes this season.
“The recruitment team there have identified multiple players across the world who they feel could be an asset and improve upon what they’ve got.
“Porro has been impressive for Tottenham over a long period of time now, not just recently. Those performances have caught the eye, and if Spurs aren’t going to be successful, he could move on.
“The interest from Man City comes as no surprise so they could make a move for him, yeah. He’s a player they already know well. They handle their business very well in the transfer market and I’m told they’ve been watching him closely on the pitch but they also know what type of character he is.”
Porro would be a huge loss for Tottenham
Porro has already expressed excitement when he discovered Real Madrid were expressing interest in signing him, so if Manchester City look to secure a deal, it would be no surprise if he pushes for a move away from Spurs.
But Porro will not be an easy player to replace. Although Spurs have a promising right-back option in Archie Gray, while Djed Spence has recently signed a new contract, neither player is at Porro’s level yet. Ideally, they will keep him at the club at least until the end of the season.
