Tottenham team news: Postecoglou on Micky Van de Ven injury and Son return
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the press ahead of this weekend’s game against Aston Villa, and provided an injury and team news update.
Man City game created a number of fitness issues
Going into the game against Manchester City this week, Ange Postecoglou knew he was without Wilson Odobert, who has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, both Heung-min Son and Djed Spence were ruled out, more so as a precaution, with further assessments of their fitness needed before the weekend.
During the 2-1 win over City, Spurs fans saw Micky van de Ven limp off in tears with a suspected hamstring injury after just 14 minutes.
Shortly after half-time, Cristian Romero was replaced, which Postecoglou revealed after the game was merely down to fatigue.
Then, deeper into the game, Timo Werner pulled up with an injury, too, though the nature of that issue was not known at the time.
Postecoglou provides Tottenham injury and team news
In his latest press conference (via Football.London) ahead of the impending game against Aston Villa on Sunday, Postecoglou has been asked about the status of those on the Tottenham injury list, and revealed team news for the weekend.
He told Tom Barclay that Micky Van de Ven has a ‘strained hamstring’ which will likely keep him out until after the November international break. However, he added that it is ‘not serious’.
Both Cristian Romero and Timo Werner are still sore from the Man City game, but both still have a chance to feature this weekend. Both players came off early in the Carabao Cup.
Finally, some better news, Heung-min Son trained today and could be back in time for Aston Villa.
Spurs need to be at their best for Villa
Aston Villa are flying right now, and it will take all we’ve got to get a result against them. Having Sonny back for the game would be a huge boost, and the partnership of Romero and van de Ven at the back always makes us stronger, too.
