Ange Postecoglou reveals how Micky van de Ven reacted to hamstring injury
Micky van de Ven lasted just 14 minutes of the Carabao Cup game in midweek before pulling up with an injury, but his manager has now suggested we may see the defender back in action sooner rather than later.
Micky van de Ven tearful as he leaves the pitch
Ange Postecoglou decided to start van de Ven at left-back on Wednesday night against Manchester City. But, the young defender was forced off the field early in the first half after seemingly feeling a strain in his hamstring.
He was replaced by Destiny Udogie on the night, and left the field in tears, leaving Spurs fans to fear the worst about their star centre-back.
Van de Ven previously suffered a hamstring injury last November which kept him out of action for around two months, and saw Tottenham’s form take a dramatic dip in his absence.
It has been suggested that van de Ven could miss as little as one week in the best-case scenario, but could face up to six weeks on the sidelines.
The player himself shared a post on Instagram yesterday stating he would be “back soon,” giving Tottenham supporters hope of a speedy recovery.
Postecoglou has good news about van de Ven
Speaking to the press today (via Football.London) ahead of the game against Aston Villa this weekend, Postecoglou was asked about van de Ven’s reaction to that injury at the time, and offered a hint as to how serious it may be.
“He was really looking forward to the game, so he was emotional,” Postecoglou said. “At least it’s not a bad one like last time that kept him out for quite a while.”
When will van de Ven be back?
There is no doubt van de Ven will be unavailable for the Villa game this weekend. The Europa League tie against Galatasaray is probably too soon, too, but hopefully he could return for the Ipswich game on November 10th. Getting him back before the international break would be a huge boost.
