Port Authority recognized for bond fund excellence
The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority was honored with the Lighthouse Award of Excellence in Economic Development from the American Association of Port Authorities. The award, presented Wednesday, noted the performance of the Port Authority’s bond fund, which has assisted numerous local and regional businesses and other institutions with financing improvements, construction, and expansion. Speaking at the AAPA’s annual convention in Boston, the organization’s president and CEO, Cary S. Davis, described the award as “an exciting opportunity to showcase and celebrate the port industry’s most outstanding innovative projects and steadfast commitment to excellence." In May, the Port Authority completed its 100th project financed through the Northwest Ohio Bond Fund. That undertaking provided $8 million in loans to Midwest Terminals, the company that operates the Port of Toledo’s General Cargo Dock, enabling it to construct a new liquid trans-loading facility.
