John Lewis reveals another Christmas advert hint – watch now
JOHN LEWIS has unveiled the second part in its trilogy of adverts celebrating Christmas.
The home, fashion and tech retailer today launched the “Give Knowingly” clip created by Saatchi and Saatchi.
John Lewis said the latest instalment highlights the “wisdom and wise choices” its customers make when buying Christmas presents.
The advert chronicles the ups and downs of one shopper’s pink jumper bought for her by her mum.
The 30-second clip reveals how the woman has spilt jam on the jumper, stowed it away in her loft after dying her hair the same colour and wore it when going official with her partner.
The ad closes with a still of the jumper wrapped up with a note that reads “Love Mum X” as narrator and actress Samantha Morton says “just know it’s for you, and the person who gave it to you loves you”.
Franki Goodwin, chief creative officer at Saatchi and Saatchi, said: “Though we’re a few weeks out, the journey to finding the perfect Christmas present really starts now.
“It was essential we captured this insight in this second chapter and brought our amazing supplier brands into the story.”
The release of the “Give Knowingly” ad comes just weeks after John Lewis unveiled the first of its trilogy of Christmas ads.
The first ad focuses on the retailer’s Never Knowingly Undersold pledge which was brought back in September after two years.
The video, featuring music from artist Laura Mvula, shows a single John Lewis shop window through the decades, from the roaring 1920s through to the modern day.
Scenes are also shown during the outbreak of the Second World War, the swinging 60s and with shoppers clad in Lycra during the 1980s.
The end of the 90-second clip then features the Never Knowingly Undersold pledge, which was first launched in 1925.
John Lewis is set to release the final part in its trilogy of ads later this month.
It is the first time John Lewis has lined up a trilogy of adverts teasing shoppers in the run up to the busy Christmas period.
But, in any case, the retailer’s adverts are usually hotly anticipated.
Last year, its Christmas ad featured a young boy nurturing a Venus flytrap named snapper.
But shoppers were left divided over the video, with some saying they were left “in tears” and others stating “Christmas is ruined”.
In 2022, the retailer’s 90-second festive ad had shoppers with their tissues at the ready as it chronicled a foster dad’s painful progress in learning to skateboard – all to make his teenage daughter feel at home at Christmas.

WHAT RETAILERS ARE DOING THIS CHRISTMAS
A number of retailers have already announced they are closing stores this Boxing Day to give staff time off.

The 60-second clip is airing for the first time tonight at 8.15pm this evening during Coronation Street on ITV.
