Capital Region’s hottest Halloween on record
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- It’s that time of year again for ghosts and ghouls to rule the night, but many Capital Region parents have safety at the top of their minds. Halloween 2024 in the Capital Region is one for the books. With the record-breaking warmth, our NEWS crews hit the streets to check in on all the fun and festivities and to see how parents are keeping their kids safe this year.
“I had a great time! I was surprised they were handing out candy,” said one child.
The first stop for NEWS10 Reporter, James De La Fuente, was the Palace Theater where Executive Director, Kevin Johnson said they welcomed 2,032 dressed-up revelers for the event.
Parents said this event was perfect for their Halloween needs. “Definitely staying with the larger crowds, not really going house to house because it's not really my thing right now,” said one mom.
“I avoid any danger by going home before the sun goes down,” said another parent.
Others were just out enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. While some were questioning the temperatures. “In 20 years when it's 105 degrees in New York on Halloween, people will be like, oh, this record-breaking,” said one mother who was attending the Palace Theater Halloween event.
Over in Lansingburgh, The Boys and Girls Club hosted its first-ever Trunk-or-Treat. “We're here to give kids a safe place to go trick or treating, their families. We're giving out candy. We're giving out pizza. We're going to have a fun time,” said Executive Director, Jimmy Bulmer.
The Boys and Girls Club hopes to grow the newly established event into a block party in the coming years. “This is just to build community, a way to bring, everybody here that's set up a trunk is volunteering their time,” said Bulmer.
This is not the only Trunk-or-Treat event in the Capital Region. “There are a lot of others out here doing Trunk-or-Treats in the community. I want to say thank you to them for giving kids, our kids, and the community a safe place to go,” said Bulmer.
But not all is fun and games in Saratoga County. The sheriff’s office shared a few ways to keep kids safe, including checking the sheriff’s website for an important information portal. “What it does, is it allows people to put in an address and see if there's any sex offenders living in the immediate vicinity,” said Captain Daniel Morley. He says there are new concerns out there for kids, this year. “With the existence of some of the counterfeit candies that potentially contain THC, bring your candy home [and] have it inspected by an adult before you eat it. When in doubt, throw it out,” said the Captain Morley.
