Queensbury looks to advance with second win over Columbia
QUEENSBURY, NY (NEWS10) -- It's not just spooky season, it's playoff season in Section 2 football for most classes. We head to Class A for our 1st & 10 Game of the Week, a rematch between the two seed out of the Capital Division, Columbia, and the three seed out of the Grasso, Queensbury.
The Spartans won round one at home in the regular season 36-35. This week they have to head to the Blue Devils.
Queensbury is coming off a tough loss to Ballston Spa. They battled the Scotties for the two seed, but let go of a 16-7 third quarter lead, falling 28-23.
That loss has only put a chip on the Spartans' shoulder heading into sectionals. "It was a lot of talk this week, obviously it was very disheartening losing that game," said head coach David Huth. "We had it in our control, but timely mistakes again, killed us. The main focus was, 'Hey, we still have a playoff berth. We're still in the number three seed. We're still in charge of our destiny right now. We're not relying on anybody else but ourselves.'"
"It just made us work harder," said senior quarterback Zavry Ward. "We came to practice every day, put in the extra work just to get out this week, go to Columbia and win."
Columbia will host Queensbury Friday night at 7:00 PM. Highlights and reactions from our Game of the Week will lead off 1st & 10 at 11 on ABC.
