11/01/2024: Cooling Off to Start November
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologist Kevin Appleby:
It sure doesn't feel like November this morning with some areas waking up with temperatures at the 70 degree mark! A cold front is moving through the region, bringing a few AM showers, particularly Albany-northward. Behind this front, winds will gust 30-40 MPH at times out of the west, dragging in much cooler, more seasonable air by the afternoon region-wide. The weekend, although cool, looks great!
Showers will be winding down regionwide by late morning, with dry conditions on tap for most this afternoon. The lone exception may be in the Adirondacks, where stray PM showers are possible. After temperatures peak in the upper 60s and lower 70s, we will all see cooler conditions by late afternoon with many areas seeing temperatures in the 50s by then.
Gusty winds from the west will bring in these cooler conditions. Winds could gust up to 40 MPH above the valley floors early this afternoon.
Compared to the summery start this morning, tonight will be much cooler - but still slightly above average. Temperatures will drop into the 30s and low 40s. A shower or flurry this evening is possible up to the northwest.
The weekend is cool and bright-supportive of outdoor activities, but just be sure to dress warmly! Saturday will feature increasing sunshine and highs around the 50 degree mark.
As we turn back the clocks Sunday morning, we will do so with sub-freezing temperatures across the board. Despite a good deal of sunshine, the chilly start will limit how far those temperatures climb. Ultimately, high temperatures end up a within a degree or two of where they'll be for the first half of the weekend. Monday, meanwhile, looks cool and cloudy, but guidance has trended drier - an unsurprising trend over the past few months. I'd still keep the umbrella on standby, but this morning's data suggests we may not need to put it to too much use.
Did you like the late-October warmth? I present to you Tuesday and Wednesday, where temperatures push the 70 degree mark. There is a bit of uncertainty at this time regarding Wednesday's forecast, as some guidance try to keep temperatures near 70 with a few showers, while others are dry, brighter, and much warmer. We will monitor the model trends over the next few days. All guidance is on board with a nice day Thursday, featuring a healthy amount of sunshine and temperatures about 10 degrees above average.
