Ethiopian Airlines has won ‘Best Airline in Africa’ at the 2025 APEX Passenger Choice Awards, the company’s press service announced on Wednesday.
The award, which recognizes excellence in the passenger experience, is a milestone achievement, highlighting the airline’s outstanding service in the categories: ‘Best Cabin Service’, ‘Best Entertainment’, ‘Best Food & Beverage’, ‘Best Seat Comfort’, and ‘Best Wi-Fi’ in Africa.
Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, said the award “validates our commitment to excellence.” He congratulated the airline’s staff, passengers, and stakeholders for their role in this success.
On October 21, Ethiopian Airlines introduced the first Airbus A350-1000 to Africa, with flights scheduled for November. This addition is in line with its plans to resume flights to Monrovia, Liberia, after a 14-year pause, as part of a larger network expansion.
The airline aims to expand its fleet to 270 aircraft and connect with over 200 airports globally in the next 12 years. In an address to parliament early Thursday morning, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said that Ethiopian Airlines has ordered 124 new airplanes. He also revealed plans for Africa’s largest airport, designed to handle nearly 130 million passengers annually – a significant increase from Addis Ababa’s current capacity of 25 million.
In recent weeks, Ethiopian Airlines has also launched a new daily route from Addis Ababa to Port Sudan, expanding its African network to 66 destinations.
Speaking at the Tatarstan-Ethiopia roundtable as part of the BRICS Summit on October 24, Michale Endale, the airline’s area manager, said the company aims to introduce more routes from Russian regional airports in the near future. The deputy prime minister of Tatarstan, Oleg Korobchenko, suggested Kazan Airport as a potential secondary hub for Ethiopian Airlines in Russia.
