10/31/2024: Record Halloween Warmth
The Latest Storm Tracker Forecast from Meteorologists Matt Mackie and Kevin Appleby:
Happy Halloween! Temperatures will surge well into the 70s to near 80 degrees, some 20-25 degrees above normal, Halloween afternoon, with comfortable Trick-or-Treating weather persisting this evening. No layers required this year! A few hit-or-miss rain showers will move through after midnight into early Friday morning ahead of a cold front, setting the stage for a cooler but drier weekend ahead.
Highs will flirt with 80 degrees in Albany, with 80s more likely to the south. The current Halloween high temperature record at Albany is 75 degrees, so we will likely smash it by some 4 degrees.
Clouds thicken overnight, but the cold front won't clear the region prior to daybreak. This will allow temperatures to stay warm, with lows in the 50s and low 60s overnight.
A few scattered showers are expected, but rainfall doesn't look to amount to much. One or two showers may linger into the early morning hours of Friday.
Cooler air will be blowing in by Friday afternoon, with gusts likely reaching 30 MPH with ease. Temperatures peak near 70 here in Albany, but will start to fall tomorrow afternoon.
Cool but dry conditions are in store this weekend, with a ton of sunshine expected. Temperatures will struggle to climb past 50 degrees both weekend days, which is roughly seasonable for the first few days of November. Sunday morning in particular will feature a chilly start, with widespread 20s and even a few upper teens in the mountains likely.
Clouds thicken later Sunday ahead of a cool and at times showery Monday. Shower chances decrease but don't go away for both Tuesday and Wednesday, but warmer air will briefly work back into the region. Temperatures will be flirting with 70 degrees again by the middle of next week.
