Three Miners die in Gold-Washing site collapse in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan
Local officials in Badakhshan province have reported the deaths of three workers following the collapse of a gold-washing site in the Arghanjkhwa district.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Badakhshan police command, announced in a statement that the incident took place on Tuesday, October 29, at a gold-washing workshop in the Taqarcha area of Arghanjkhwa district.
According to the statement, after several hours of effort, the bodies of the workers were recovered from the debris and handed over to their families.
Local authorities in Badakhshan emphasized that mining activities in the province have been officially halted by the government.
It is noteworthy that unregulated mining practices and lack of adherence to safety measures are significant factors behind mine collapses and explosions in Afghanistan.
Similar incidents in various provinces, particularly in Badakhshan, have previously claimed the lives of numerous miners.
The lack of modern facilities and safety equipment in Afghanistan’s mining sector has made mining one of the most dangerous occupations in the country. Without protective gear, proper training, and regulated procedures, miners continue to work in hazardous conditions, risking their lives daily.
Afghanistan’s mining sector urgently needs reform and modernization to ensure the safety of its workers. Strengthened safety standards, updated equipment, and strict regulatory oversight are essential to protect miners and prevent further tragedies.
