‘Survivor’ auction returns in Season 47’s November 6 episode: ‘My heart explodes,’ says contestant
Mark your calendars: the “Survivor” auction is back!
At the end of the October 30 installment of “Survivor 47,” viewers were treated to a sneak peek of next week’s November 6 episode, in which it was revealed that the auction returns. “I see that word ‘auction’ and my heart explodes,” declares Caroline Vidmar in the preview trailer. This marks the 18th time that the auction will appear on CBS’s reality TV show. However, it’s only the second time in the “New Era,” following a well-received stint in the 45th season that introduced several new twists.
To recap, the “Survivor 45” auction started out with the contestants having to find bamboo tubes around camp containing various dollar amounts. They would then get to use that money at the auction on food and comfort items (plus some nasty fish eyes). Jeff Probst informed the competitors up front that there wouldn’t be any advantages up for bid this time around.
The host also announced that he would secretly draw a random number between six and 15, and the auction would end after that number of items was presented. That mattered because the player with the most unspent money at the close of the auction would lose their vote at the next tribal council. Despite Bruce Perreault coming in with the lowest amount of money, he had the highest amount remaining and therefore lost his vote.
“Survivor: The Australian Outback” first introduced the auction back in 2001, and it has been a fan-favorite occurrence ever since. Prior to Season 45, participants were always given the same amounts of money at the start of the auction. Some castaways would choose to immediately offer up all of the funds in their possession, while others would get into friendly bidding wars with their tribe mates. Sharing money with each other was allowed until “Survivor: Cook Islands.”
