Topeka braces for severe weather Wednesday
TOPEKA (KSNT) - The City of Topeka is preparing for severe weather Wednesday with a plan to clean up potential damage.
Dan Garrett with the City of Topeka said severe weather is expected to hit the Capitol City on Oct. 30 with a high potential for damage. The city is responding to this situation by mobilizing resources to help with storm damage cleanup.
People in Topeka can report downed city-owned trees, blocked streets or sidewalks due to tree debris and traffic light problems by calling 785-368-3111. You can also make a report using the SeeClickFix app or by going to the city's website. Work crews will prioritize moving debris to the side of the road to reopen traffic access as quickly as possible following the storm.
Garrett said city workers will focus on clearing city-owned trees and ensuring roads remain accessible to drivers. City Manager Robert Perez will make the determination if the city should initiate a storm damage cleanup operation if severe damage occurs. Property owners will need to pickup damage and debris on their own if Perez decides a mass cleanup operation is unnecessary.
