Wellston Fire Department provides update on Lincoln County fires
LINCOLN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) — On Wednesday, the Wellston Fire Department provided an update after several wildfires that have impacted southwestern Lincoln County in October.
WFD says they have responded to 15 fires since October 17, with three major fires impacting the Wellston community—the large Fallis grassfire north of Wellston on October 17, a major fire in the Southwest 3300/990 area on October 24, and the Southwest Sunset Drive fire on October 29.
The Sunset Drive fire on Tuesday is said to have been the most dangerous of the three major fires this month, burning through an estimated 1,300 to 1,500 acres of land due to dry fuel loads and strong winds.
Around 15 different fire departments were dispatched to battle the flames until the wildfire was contained around midnight.
Wellston firefighters say two structures were lost, but no deaths or injuries have been reported.
The primary area impacted by the fire includes County Road 950 south to 980, and Hwy 102 west to County Road 3310. Fire crews are still working in the area, and utility crews are working to restore electricity to affected areas.
