Dejan Kulusevski says squad is rallying around out-of-form Spurs man
Dejan Kulusevski vows to give one underperforming Tottenham star all the help he needs to turn around his form.
Spurs fans have given up on forward
It would be an understatement to say that Tottenham fans are at the end of their patience with Timo Werner, who continues to struggle to make the most of his opportunities.
The German has repeatedly been let down by his lack of composure in the final third, and many have already written him off as a flop, particularly given that his struggles in front of goal are anything but new.
It is fair to say that not too many supporters would be disappointed if Spurs decided to prematurely end the 28-year-old’s loan spell in January.
Dejan Kulusevski offers support to Timo Werner
Kulusevski has spoken philosophically about the on-loan RB Leipzig man’s loss of form, pointing out that all players go through these kinds of spells.
He insisted that he and his Tottenham teammates are rallying around the struggling forward to help him come through the other side.
When asked about Werner’s struggles, the Sweden international said (via The Independent): “It happens to all of us. Sometimes better games, sometimes a little bit worse. I love Timo as a guy.
“He won the Champions League, we can’t forget that. I respect him a lot. We are there for him and we are there for everybody, everyone improving together.”
Ange Postecoglou’s admission about Werner’s end product
Postecoglou had also echoed a similar sentiment on Werner’s loss of form last week, explaining that the wide-man is getting all the help he needs to overcome his issues.
However, the Tottenham head coach also plainly stated that the team needs more from the former Chelsea man in the final third, adding that it is incumbent on the player to come through this spell.
Postecoglo said about Werner following Spurs’ win over Alkmaar (via Football.London): “We are talking to Timo constantly. We understand he is lacking some confidence at the moment and everyone has been working hard at that, but with all these things, ultimately it’s incumbent on him to use as much of the support he’s got around here to get himself out of it.
“Our role in that is to provide that support whether that’s internally or externally, whatever he needs. Obviously, it’s then up to him to try to use that to get him back to the levels where he wants to be and where he can contribute for us.
“Like I said, with all the players what we try to do is provide an environment where should they need help, it’s readily available. Whilst the general play is important and Timo has done well, we still need more in that front third and we got it in the second half.”
