Another Burgess Set To Enter College Basketball
Chris’s son is a pretty good player too.
Here’s one we didn’t see coming and knew nothing about: former Blue Devil Chris Burgess, who of course left Duke for Utah when Rick Majerus was coaching there, is now an assistant at BYU. That’s interesting because there was a controversy when he was in high school and turned down the Cougars for Duke.
A Mormon, Burgess caught a lot of grief for the decision, not least of all from then-coach Roger Reid, who accused him of “letting down nine million Mormons.”
Burgess then rejected BYU again when he transferred, spurning the Mormon school for the Utes. They got over it.
We didn't realize that so many members of his family did attend BYU and soon one more will as well: his son, Chamberlain, has committed to BYU.
It’s certainly an interesting arc for Burgess. There were some hard feelings when he chose Duke and now he will coach his son at BYU. He’s a good guy and we wish both of them the best of luck.
