House of Dragon and True Detective stars lead cast lineup for brand new BBC drama Wild Cherry
BBC bosses have revealed the cast for Wild Cherry, a new drama by BAFTA winning writer Nicôle Lecky.
The ensemble is going to be led by House of the Dragon’s Eve Best and Carmen Ejogo from True Detective.
Eve Best has been announced as one of the main stars on the drama[/caption]Joining them are Sophie Winkleman (Peep Show, Sanditon), Daniel Lapaine (Catastrophe), Hayat Kamille (Vikings: Valhalla), Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables), James Murray (The Crown), and Hugh Quarshie (Holby City), and Nicôle Lecky herself.
The original six-part series promises to explore the complexities of mother daughter relationships in the digital age.
Eve Best stars as Juliet, a privileged resident of an exclusive gated community on the Richford Estate.
Meanwhile Carmen Ejogo plays her best friend Lorna, a self-made businesswoman from South London.
Juliet and Lorna’s friendship faces unprecedented challenges when their teenage daughters, Grace (Imogen Faires) and Allegra (Amelia May) become embroiled in a scandal that shakes their affluent community.
As tensions mount and loyalties are tested, Wild Cherry offers an incisive look into privilege and betrayal.
This thriller poses two central questions: How far would we go to protect our children?
And if they are badly behaved, who did they learn that behaviour from?
Nicôle Lecky, who was previously known for her acclaimed series Mood, expressed her delight at getting to work with such a talented cast, saying: “Getting to work with Carmen and Eve is such a dream, and they have brought Wild Cherry to life in the most special way.
“Wild Cherry has a brilliant ensemble cast of characters (also led by Amelia and Imogen who are wonderful) and I cannot wait for audiences to meet our Richford Lake residents.”
Carmen Ejogo also shared her excitement about the project, sharing: “Nicôle brings a fresh and less explored UK perspective to her storytelling which resonates with me personally. I’m thrilled to be a part of Wild Cherry for the BBC.”
Her co-star Eve Best added: “After House of the Dragon, I wanted to plunge into something and someone very different from who I’d just been playing. And Nicôle’s brilliantly dark script really keeps me on my toes, which I love.”
Wild Cherry is currently being filmed in Surrey, and is set for release on BBC One and iPlayer.
