Ange Postecoglou to make surprising Spurs selection against Man City
Tottenham fans may be in for a surprise when they see the club’s starting eleven against Manchester City, with GiveMeSport revealing that one under-fire Spurs star is expected to come back into the team.
Mikey Moore is expected to drop out
The report says that Mikey Moore will miss out on a third-consecutive start for Spurs after featuring against AZ Alkmaar and Crystal Palace.
The 17-year-old struggled to make much of an impact at Selhurst Park and he is now expected to drop back to the bench as Ange Postecoglou rotates his troop for the Carabao Cup clash against City.
The Spurs academy graduate is expected to be replaced by a more experienced wide player, who has been in poor form of late.
Timo Werner to get an opportunity
With Heung-min Son and Wilson Odobert unavailable for the clash, GiveMeSport say that Postecoglou is all set to bring Werner back into the starting eleven.
Even though the 28-year-old has been poor in the final third of late and looks short of confidence, he is expected to be handed another chance to show what he can do against the Premier League champions.
The report adds that as things stand, the German’s long-term future lies away from North London, but he will be trusted this evening in the Carabao Cup round of sixteen clash.
Last chance saloon for Werner?
The former Chelsea man has come in for a lot of criticism over recent weeks and Postecoglou himself has publicly acknowledged that Spurs need more end product from him (The Independent).
This evening’s clash could thus be a make-or-break opportunity for Werner, who will be keen to redeem himself and prove his worth.
However, if the forward struggles once again against Man City, that might spell the end of his chances of making it at Tottenham, particularly with Son expected to be back fit for the clash against Aston Villa.
