TUI Airways returns to small UK airport for the first time in 15 years – with new flights to Spain
TUI has relaunched flights from a small airport in the UK – after a 15 year hiatus.
The flights from Southampton Airport were paused back in 2009.
TUI is relaunching flights to Majorca from Southampton[/caption]But starting next summer, TUI Airways will operate routes from the regional airport to Majorca.
The weekly flight will run every Tuesday, starting from May 27, 2025.
The seasonal route will operate until September 20, 2025 before ending for summer.
It also ties in with Marella Cruises, which sails from Majorca to hotspots such as Sardinia, Naples, and Pisa.
TUI UK’s Director of Aviation Planning Karen Switzer said: “We are extremely excited to return to Southampton Airport to reconnect travellers with the vibrant corner of the world that is Palma.
“We understand how important it is for customers to have access to flights from their local airports, and this latest addition brings the number of regional airport that TUI Airways fly from to 24.
“We look forward to welcoming customers on board from May next year and taking them away on their dream Majorcan holiday”.
Chris Tibbett, Aero Director at AGS Airports, which owns and operates Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports, added that the new flights come after the runway extension at Southampton Airport.
He said: “This is an incredible milestone for our airport and signals a future filled with growth, as we continue to expand and enhance travel options for our passengers to every corner of Europe.”
The Sun’s Assistant Travel Editor Sophie Swietochowski visited Majorca earlier this year – here’s how to find the peaceful side of it.
It’s not the only flights being launched by TUI.
Next year, TUI will start flights from East Midlands Airport to Burgas, Bulgaria as well as Boa Vista in Cape Verde.
A new London Gatwick to Porto route will be launched to support TUI’s river cruises.
Even London Luton will get a new route to Paphos, to support Marella Cruise programmes.
And more flights are being added to existing routes at Newcastle, Birmingham and Bournemouth next year.
