China: We will not tolerate repeated attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan
Jiang Zaidong, the Chinese ambassador to Islamabad, responded to the “repeated attacks on Chinese citizens” in Pakistan and called for increased security measures to protect Chinese personnel and institutions in the country.
Pakistani media reported that Ambassador Jiang made these remarks on Tuesday, October 29, during a speech at an international conference organized by the Pakistan-China Institute (PCI) in Islamabad.
Ambassador Jiang emphasized that both countries can jointly combat terrorists who target Chinese nationals.
He referenced several armed attacks in Pakistan, including incidents in March and October, specifically targeting Chinese citizens and engineers working in the country.
The ambassador stated, “These repeated attacks are unacceptable for China, and we hope that the Pakistani side will ensure the security of Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.”
Reports indicate that due to the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), thousands of Chinese personnel are working in various projects across Pakistan.
The continuous targeting of Chinese nationals in Pakistan raises serious concerns about the safety of foreign workers involved in crucial infrastructure projects. The repeated attacks not only threaten bilateral relations but also jeopardize ongoing economic collaborations under CPEC.
Ensuring the safety of Chinese personnel is critical for maintaining strong ties between China and Pakistan. Both nations must prioritize security and counter-terrorism efforts to protect foreign workers and sustain their shared economic interests.
