‘Why are you laughing?’ Harris supporter clashes with chuckling Republican on CNN
A social media influencer and a former Trump White House official didn’t agree on much during a CNN appearance Tuesday night, but the issue of Joe Biden's presidency – and whether or not his unpopularity is deserved – caused both guests to passionately defend their positions.
The moment came on CNN’s “NewsNight” with host Abby Phillip during a discussion about approval ratings for Biden, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think it would be great if she could run on what Biden has done because what Biden has done is actually tremendous,” Leigh McGowan, a social media influencer who uses the handle PoliticsGirl, said Tuesday about the Democratic nominee.
She continued: “And I think it is absolutely bananas that she has to even think of distancing herself from the Jobs and Infrastructure Act, from the CHIPS Act, from the PACT Act, we haven't done infrastructure – why are you laughing?!” McGowan shot back at Republican Marc Lotter, a former special assistant to Trump, who could be heard laughing on set.
“Please keep talking about the CHIPS Act, if you look at the polling on the issues, Joe Biden is 60% disapproved on every single major issue,” he said.

“I don’t care about the polling! I care about jobs that are happening in the country,” McGowan again fired back as Lotter tried to get his point across. “Oh my God, I can’t even speak. Listen, Marc, there are things that have passed in this country that haven't been done in years,” she insisted.
McGowan concluded the back-and-forth with Lotter by telling the Trump ally that years from now “people are going to say in retrospect, ‘Holy heck was Joe Biden a fantastic president.' But right now we have to pretend that he was some God-awful president when honestly he passed more major infrastructure bills, more things for guns, more things for the climate, more things for the veterans, and the Republicans voted against all of it.”
