They had to make delicious autumnal pies in the signature and cook up the perfect Parkin in the technical, but it was Prue Leith’s take on the classic Parkin dish has sparked fury and outrage from GBBO viewers.
Taking to social media, viewers couldn’t get over Prue’s addition of icing to her Parkin.
One viewer vented: “I’m very f***** sorry… Icing on parkin!? Get f***** with that Waitrose nonsense Prue.”
Another shared: “I am not from Yorkshire but I have heard of and eaten Parkin. It’s an abomination to even consider putting icing on it or cinnamon in it. Sticky black treacle yes and ginger.”
“Absolutely no icing ever on Parkin. Please note Northern Law 426,” stressed a third.
A fourth shared: “FFS Prue Leith clearly doesn’t know what real parkin is. It has ginger in it and that’s it. No cinnamon, no icing. Whatever she wanted them to make was a Southern abomination.”
A fifth posted: “Prue’s Parkin is not parkin. It should be heavy and have a weird oatmealy texture. No icing or other rubbish.”
Elsewhere on the show, fans were left raging with the latest elimination from the competition.
However, it was Nellie who struggled the most throughout the week as Paul and Prue chose her for elimination after struggling with her showstopper.
As soon as Noel revealed the news, the effervescent baker elaborately stood up in front of everyone.
The fan favourite personality joked: “I’m not going anywhere,” which received a round of laughter from everyone in the gingham tent.
Many viewers couldn’t help but fume at the judges, as some predicted that Nelly was so popular, she could get her own show.
One viewer said: “I just dont know why Paul and Prue are doing this too us. Its been a long, hard year and I don’t think we are strong enough to lose Nelly at this stage.”
While another raged: “No. Just, no. Not Nelly. She is a force of nature. Bad decision, Prue and Paul.”
“Sack the judges. The producers. The channel 4 execs,” noted someone else.
The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel 4.
