What Man Utd stars thought after ETH’s final act to everyone in dressing room vs West Ham - report
Erik ten Hag shook the hand of everyone in the Manchester United dressing room after the final whistle on Sunday, which some perceived as him sensing he may be in jeopardy, according to The Athletic.
The 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at London Stadium proved to be the final straw for the Dutchman following a dismal run of one win in eight games, and it appeared he knew his reign was over after the game.
While Ten Hag started preparation for the Carabao Cup game against Leicester City later today on Sunday evening, those around the club noticed the football leadership team being less visible with him both at the training ground and at games in his final fortnight as Man United manager.
He was widely tipped to be sacked after the end of last season and came close to being booted out earlier this month during the international break.
Not many saw the news on Monday coming as it was believed he was going to be given more time to turn things around, but the Man United board had had enough and are now in the process of appointing Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as his replacement.
Ten Hag ended his two-and-half-year spell at the Old Trafford club with one FA Cup and one Carabao Cup, finishing third in the Premier League table in his debut season and eighth last term.
However, those achievements were not enough to buy him more time this term, with Man United currently 14th in the league and without a win in three Europa League games this season.
Ten Hag could no longer get the best out of the players and his desire to reunite with some of his former players ultimately proved to be his undoing as most of them did not deliver the goods.
The Red Devils believe Amorim is capable of taking them to the next level, and it will be interesting to see how he fares given that the club have sacked every permanent manager they have had since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.
