Taylor Swift's Eras Tour brings in millions of dollars to New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has a big reputation for shattering records, and it was no different here in New Orleans.
"Tickets alone, you know, you're looking around 65,000 seats a night, three nights, somewhere around $200 million that people spent to see Taylor this weekend,” said Matt Wolfe with Greater New Orleans, Inc.
Swift's concerts are known for boosting local economies globally. Her revenue record is so impressive that the term "Swiftonomics" was created to describe her economic impact, and no matter what city she visits, it’s a big one.
Franco Valobra owns Valobra Jewelry on Royal Street. He said this weekend brought an influx of customers like he hasn't seen in years.
“This weekend has been one of the best weekends we have experienced in probably the last decade,” said Valobra. “Our impact, economical impact, not just for the restaurant and for the hotel, which is pretty obvious with all the people that have come to see this triple evening concerts, but even for the retailers, it has been record days of sales, but most importantly, it's been a wonderful experience for these people that come from all over the country."
Over at Popbar on N. Peters Street, owner Oanh Nguyen said business hasn't been that good since the end of COVID.
“This is the first weekend I've seen my sales up like it spiked a lot within two hours once our door opened. It brought in a lot of foot traffic,” said Nguyen. “So, I can’t imagine what the Super Bowl will bring for us, but it was a very, very good weekend for us.”
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour became the first to gross over $1 billion in revenue in 2023.
