USPS recommends mail-in ballots be sent by today to make it for Election Day
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A week out from Election Day, the United States Postal Service recommends voters who choose to vote by mail “do so soon,” according to a news release published Monday.
USPS recommends mailing your ballot by Tuesday, Oct. 29, if your vote is due by Nov. 5, Election Day, in your state.
In Louisiana, the deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted absentee ballot is Nov. 4 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
"We continue to recommend that it is a good common-sense measure for voters who choose to mail in their ballots to do so before Election Day and at least a week before their election office needs to receive them," the USPS wrote.
“As we anticipate an uptick of ballots in the mail over the coming days, Postal Service employees are working to ensure the ballots of every individual who chooses to vote by mail are delivered quickly and securely,” a USPS spokesperson said in a statement. “As in past elections, the Postal Service is ready to deliver your ballot on time. But don’t delay. If you choose to vote by mail, please mail early as every day counts.”
The Postal Service estimated that 99.89% of mail-in ballots will be delivered to their respective counting sites within a week. On average, USPS estimates it takes about a day and a half to make the delivery.
A week from Election Day, USPS was in the midst of “deploying extraordinary measures,” which included extra delivery and pickups and other processes “designed to accelerate and enhance the delivery of Ballot Mail,” a spokesperson said.
Nexstar's WDCW reported that those measures may also include special lines for drop-offs at USPS locations.
