Opelousas native Sedrick Savoy celebrates success of three movies
OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- From filming music videos on the streets of Opelousas to being an award-winning filmmaker, Sedrick Savoy is celebrating his latest success. He has released three brand-new movies and they're taking over the charts.
"It was really kind of hard to do it. It was unheard of. I mean, I don't know nobody that can just drop three movies on Tubi at one time," Savoy said.
After gaining experience as an award-winning music video director, Savoy transitioned into the film industry with his movie "The Cleaners."
Not long after, Savoy made the film's sequel and hosted a premiere at the Delta Grand Theater.
He then released three new movies on the streaming service Tubi in a span of one week.
Savoy said with the first 48 hours of releasing the first film "Welcome to Fat Belly's," it went "number one" and took over 10 categories.
"The following Friday we dropped 'The Cleaners 2' and 'Powerball' that took over like six or seven categories. So, in total, right now, we probably lead about 20 categories to be number one for comedy, black comedy, independent film," Savoy said.
With the success of the films, Savoy has earned more directorial awards and was even awarded the key to the city of Opelousas.
Looking at the journey so far, Savoy takes pride in showing the youth of Opelousas you can chase your dreams and build up those around you in the process.
"It's been amazing. It's been a beautiful journey. To do it right here in my city, the city of Opelousas, with all the natives from the city in the movies; it's been really beautiful," he said.
"And it's not just about my city, it's not just about St. Landry Parish, it's causing an effect globally right now you know so is a beautiful thing man and to share with my people and to say I did it right here in Opelousas. It's beautiful man," he continued.
Savoy said his work is still far from over, as he's already working on more projects to release in the future.
