Shooting reported at University of Bridgeport campus: officials
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (PIX11) – A shooting was reported at the University of Bridgeport campus in Connecticut Tuesday evening, authorities said.
Shots were reportedly fired at a dining hall at the university, according to a spokesperson for the Bridgeport Police Department. One person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said. Authorities said the incident is “not an active shooter situation.”
"The Bridgeport Police Department is actively searching for a suspect involved in an isolated incident that occurred on the University of Bridgeport campus," the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center shared on its Facebook page. "Preliminary information suggests the parties involved know each other."
The University of Bridgeport was put on lockdown as a precaution while police investigate, officials said.
The Bridgeport Police Department has deployed additional patrols on campus as a safety measure.
"We ask the public to avoid the area at this time, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available," the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center shared.
