San Rafael man dies in rural Marin crash
A San Rafael resident died in a crash in the Hicks Valley area, police said.
The crash happened at about 3:40 p.m. Monday on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road near the Sonoma County line, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of a Ford Explorer was heading west when the vehicle left the road, struck an embankment and rolled onto its roof, said CHP Officer Darrel Horner.
The driver was 29 years old. Authorities have not released his name.
His passenger, a 27-year-old woman, removed herself from the vehicle, Horner said.
Police closed the road for three hours after the crash. It remains under investigation. Police do not suspect the driver was intoxicated, Horner said.
