Christy Turlington Shares Powerful Photo & Message With Her ‘First-Time Voter’ Daughter Grace: ‘With My Daughter, for My Daughter’
Election Day is just one week away, and early voting is underway around the country. Data collected by CNN found that more than 48 million ballots have already been cast across 47 states and the District of Columbia, with pre-election voting down significantly compared to four years ago. Supermodel Christy Turlington is doing her part to increase those numbers, and she just shared a powerful message after heading to the polls with her first-time voter daughter Grace Burns, 21.
“With my Daughter, for my Daughter (& my Son),” Turlington wrote on Instagram, referring to her kids Grace and 18-year-old son Finn, who she shares with husband Ed Burns. In the post-voting selfie, which Turlington has tagged the official Kamala Harris and Tim Walz campaign, both women have “I voted early 2024” stickers on. In the caption, she implored people to think about the reasons they need to vote this election.
“This election is about more than any single issue AND most of all it’s about the world we want our children to inherit!” she wrote in the caption. “I’m voting for Decency and Bodily Autonomy, among so many other critical issues on the ballot. I’m voting for our Reproductive Rights and for the Freedom that comes with them. @iamavoter @votelikeamother @everymomcounts @harriswalz.2024 #earlyvoting #notgoingback”
Absolutely inspiring! Amy Schumer commented, “Powerful❤️????.” Another person wrote, “Love everything about this. Who knew we’d be in a position to declare that getting back to basic decency was essential to our future. As the saying goes, love wins. I hope that holds true as we approach this pivotal and historic moment in time. ♥️”
“Well said! Beautiful powerful photo. Leading by example. I hope others will make the same choice & understand it’s about not just women’s rights, it’s about human rights. ????????????” someone else commented.
“Our daughters are voting for the first time in this most consequential election and I take tremendous heart in knowing that we have helped to prepare them for that enormous responsibility,” someone else said. “I truly believe that they will leave this world better than they found it ????????”
Turlington is the founder of the nonprofit organization Every Mother Counts, which is “dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.” She founded it in 2010, following the release of her documentary film No Woman, No Cry.
In an April interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Turlington shared that her organization has helped support more than 1.5 million women, families, and healthcare workers and invested more than $42 million in raising awareness and developing community-led solutions.
“I’ll be 60 in five years, and I want to start thinking through what the next five years will be for me personally,” she told the outlet, noting that Every Mother Counts will be almost 20, and her daughter will be 25. “Early on, I said I hope that by the time she’s thinking about if and when and how and why she wants to be a mom, these issues [around maternal health] are the rare event that most people think that they are. And we’re very far away from that right now.”
