Mixed-income affordable housing community opens in north Austin
AUSTIN (KXAN) – The City of Austin Housing Department, in partnership with Saigebrook Development and O-SDA Industries, celebrated Monday the opening of June West, a new mixed-income community in north Austin's Brentwood neighborhood.
Department officials said this development features 80 modern units — studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom — affordable to families earning 30% to 80% of the median family income.
Located at 1200 W. Koenig Lane, the 1.13-acre site includes amenities such as a children's playroom, clubhouse, cyber lounge, fitness center and bicycle parking. All common areas are accessible, and units are fully adaptable with elevator access, officials added.
“The June West development shows our commitment to offering various affordable housing choices that meet the needs of all Austinites," Interim Housing Department Director Mandy DeMayo said in a Monday release.
Construction began in September 2022, backed by $3.7 million from the Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) and additional funding sources, including loans and tax credits.
As part of its commitment to local art, the project features murals from various Austin artists, including Jonas Criscoe and Priscilla Lustig. June West also adheres to the S.M.A.R.T. Housing program, ensuring sustainable building practices, per the release.
