Ulster Co. woman sentenced in manslaughter case
KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- On Thursday, a Lake Katrine woman was sentenced to two years and four months to seven years in connection to the drug overdose of a 14-year-old in August 2022. Kristin Delsanto, 29, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter of her partner's daughter in September.
An investigation determined that Delsanto and her partner, Collin Schlegel, were aware of and contributed to Schlegel's biological daughter's narcotic drug and alcohol use that caused her death. The investigation also found that Delsanto went with the child to get the narcotics along with taking them.
Schlegel's daughter was pronounced dead on Aug. 2, 2022, after responding officers attempted life-saving measures. Investigators spent a year establishing the timeline leading up to Schlegel's death.
At the sentencing, the 14-year-old's mother and younger sister read victim impact statements, and District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said the case was a heartbreaker. "Illegal drug use and abuse by adults are obviously not okay and we all know the toll on our community, but the abuse of a child by giving her such poison that kills her, especially by the hands entrusted with her care and wellbeing, is unforgivable and will be held to account," Nneji said.
