Another Town Board meeting canceled in Berne
BERNE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -The Berne Town Board is still down three members after they quit back in August. The October 30 meeting was canceled as the remaining two would be left with nothing to do. But that doesn't mean the Town has been without business.
The Town Clerk says they can still process bills, manage employees, and help residents. They've even been able to submit a tentative budget. Since there's not enough board members to have a vote, there can't be a motion for a public hearing on the budget. On October 1, the Highway Superintendent said if the 2025 budget cannot be passed, the Town will be using the same numbers from 2024.
NEWS10's Anthony Krolikowski went around Berne to ask residents what they thought about the situation. No one wanted to go on camera, but a few did share the same opinions. They said the government has become too political and they can understand why the board members quit.
Supervisor Dennis Palow reached back out to NEWS10 and said he is available for an interview later this week.
