City council candidate removes 'sexual assault' plaque from pop-up Trump statue
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland City Council District 4 candidate and self-described “fearless Trump supporter” Brandon Farley made a public statement of his own on Sunday by partially destroying a Donald Trump parody statue placed in Downtown Portland over the weekend.
The gold-painted statue, which was fitted with a plaque ironically honoring Trump for a “Lifetime of Sexual Assault,” was placed next to the celebrated female nude sculpture used in former mayor Bud Clark’s “expose yourself to art” poster. Farley filmed himself removing the plaque with a chisel because people to show respect for “our next president," he said. The video was later posted to Farley's X account.
“The plaque was meant to mock him, through gross mischaracterization, by saying ‘In Honor of a Lifetime of Sexual Assault,’” Farley said. “If that were true, he would have several criminal convictions on his record, and he would most certainly be a registered sex offender. I would not support such a man.”
In 2023, a jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing advice columnist E. Jean Carroll in 1996, and later defaming her for the allegations. Carroll was awarded $5 million in the civil case. However, Trump did not face any criminal charges in the trial. In May, Trump was convicted of 34 felonies for falsifying internal business records to cover up hush money payments used to bury stories that could have affected his 2016 presidential campaign. Trump has appealed the ruling.
While the artist responsible for the piece of political street art is unknown, Farley blames left wing activists.
“The left still holds a strong majority in Portland,” he said. “Antifa is forecasted to make their return to rioting in downtown on the night of the election, when Donald Trump will inevitably win by a large margin. Remember the Demon Elk statue in 2020… I have no doubt that this was another one of their stunts.”
The Trump parody statue was torn apart piece by piece after it was placed on SW 6th Avenue. By Sunday afternoon, the statue had been beheaded. By 9:30 p.m., all that was left was one golden shoe.
On Nov. 5, Portland will completely transform the city’s system of government by electing 12 city council members and a new mayor.
The U.S., meanwhile, will resolve a highly contentious election between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
