Lonnie Walker IV Sends Message After His Celtics G League Decision
A veteran NBA guard bet on himself after his Celtics departure.
Before the start of the season, Boston waived Lonnie Walker IV. The 25-year-old had a solid preseason and seemed like an ideal fit for Joe Mazzulla’s system. However, the financial burden would have been too much for the C’s.
Walker had a choice to enter free agency or join the Celtics’ G League affiliate in Maine. It was reported that the 2018 first-round pick elected free agency and seemed to confirm his decision Tuesday.
“I’m only 25 all in due time!” Walker posted on X. “The marathon continues. I know the stars will align. Self belief is the best belief. All apart of the story. Stay tuned.”
There were very few NBA rosters with vacancies to start the week, so it’s possible Walker will go overseas and try to get his NBA journey going again after the trade deadline.
The Celtics reportedly had the option to ship off Jaden Springer to open up a roster spot and salary to sign Walker. They still have that option in their back pocket if there is mutual interest.
