Donald Trump Tells 1,500 Christian Pastors and Leaders, “I’m Behind You All the Way”
Cries of “Jesus is Lord!” filled the room as some 1500 pastors, ministry leaders and Christian and Jewish patriots filled the room of the Worship with Wonders Church in Powder Springs, GA Monday afternoon for a meeting with President Trump.
They all knew they were at the right rally, contrary to what Kamala Harris told Christians recently at hers.
I was privileged to join many friends and colleagues at the gathering, as we expressed our support of President Trump while at the same time proclaiming our absolute loyalty only to one person, the Lord Jesus Christ.
And that’s exactly how Christian politics works. We don’t see any one candidate or party as a Savior. Rather, in the light of the Word of God we assess what candidates and parties will best advance the interests of the Kingdom of God, and we get to work defending and advancing Christian truths and values in the political realm.

The gathering of several hours consisted of two parts: first, of powerful speeches by various faith leaders, and then with a Q and A session with President Trump.
The speeches were marked by a strong theme of calling the nation’s churches and pastors to accountability for not addressing politics and elections. Several pointed out that politics matters because politics affect policies, and policies affect people.
Some also voiced the theme that believers should not continue to financially support churches that abandon Christian responsibility for politics.
The key themes of the gathering, sponsored by the National Faith Advisory Board (which began with a series of prayer meetings in 2011 and more recently solidified as a continuation of the faith engagement efforts of the Trump Administration) were Defending Life at All States, starting with protecting the unborn, Promoting a Strong America, Honoring Family Values, and Protecting Religious Freedom.
Pastor Sam Rodriguez, a leading voice in the Latino Hispanic faith community, said in an emotional appeal that on so many issues, the battle cry in this election to the radical on the Left is, Keep your hands off our children!
Kelly Shackleford, of the leading religious freedom legal group First Liberty, thanked President Trump for all his conservative judges who, in just the last few years, have handed down landmark decisions that have altered the course of religious freedom and the pro-life movement for the better in America.
The afternoon was peppered with strong appeals to get out the vote early. More than once, congregation was asked how many had already voted early. Just about every hand went up.
In his own remarks, President Trump told the faith leaders, and by extension, all believers across America, that “religion is the “glue” that holds our country together,” and that “the more powerful you become the better the country will be.”
He made mention of how terrible it is that Catholics in particular have been targeted and investigated by the IRS, and that this should shape the decisions of Catholic voters as to what kind of Administration they want to put into power.
President Trump also reminded the pastors gathered that America wants to hear their voices, and that the Trump Administration took action to blunt the effects of the “Johnson Amendment,” which tells nonprofit groups – and, by extension, Churches — that they cannot “intervene” in political races.
He said that in his next term he would work with Congress to get rid of that Johnson Amendment altogether, so that the freedom to speak and apply God’s word to the public square will reign supreme among believers.
The whole event was a prayer service that ended with a heartfelt period in which the clergy laid hands on President Trump and the entire gathering extended their hands to invoke the Holy Spirit’s guidance and protection upon him.
In the midst of a culture in which Christian beliefs are under systematic and sustained attack, President Trump concluded the afternoon with a solemn promise to the Churches, their clergy and their congregations: “I’m behind you all the way!”
