How many World Series sweeps have there been and when was the last one?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are one game from sweeping the New York Yankees in the World Series. If that has you wondering when the last World Series sweep was, good, because I had the same thought too.
Even with the World Series being the pinnacle of the season, sweeps do occasionally happen, though there hasn’t been one on this stage in over a decade. The last time a team was swept in the World Series was in 2012 when the San Francisco Giants beat the Detroit Tigers.
In total, it’s happened 21 times, and more than half involved New York. The Yankees swept the World Series eight times and they were swept three times, including once by the Dodgers in 1963.
