Calling Tottenham inconsistent is just wrong – says Michael Dawson
Michael Dawson explains why he thinks accusing Tottenham Hotspur of a lack of consistency is an incorrect analysis.
A case of ‘what if’ for Tottenham
The story of Tottenham’s season so far has been one of missed opportunities, with the Lilywhites failing to get over the line in several games they should have won.
Perhaps the most extreme of those cases was at the Amex Stadium, where Spurs managed to throw away guaranteed points due to a poor 20-minute spell at the start of the second half.
Michael Dawson believes consistency is not an issue
While it is clear that Tottenham are one of the most devastating sides in the Premier League when things click for them, many have questioned if the Lilywhites have the consistency required to challenge near the top end of the table.
However, Dawson pointed out that the performances from Ange Postecoglou’s men have been consistently good this season, insisting that it is simply a case of the side not getting the results that they deserve.
He said about his former club (via Yahoo Sport): “I wouldn’t say consistency has been an issue, I would say it’s results. The performances have been good but they haven’t got the results they deserve, all the way back to the first game of the season against Leicester.
“Ange will be hugely disappointed that so early in the season there have been games like that where they could and should have won and they should have a lot more points than they’ve got.”
Dawson excited by Spurs youngster
Despite some of the doom and gloom that has surrounded Spurs at various points this season, there have undoubtedly been many positives so far, which point to a bright future.
One of those is the emergence of Mikey Moore, with the 17-year-old looking completely unfazed by the challenge of playing at the highest level every time he has been given an opportunity.
When asked about Moore, Dawson said: “Mikey has been great and it’s always good to see a player come through the ranks. You look at the guys who have come through at City, like Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb and Phil Foden – I love seeing Pep do it.
“When you’re a young lad at an academy you look at your pathway and you have to be special to get into the first team because it’s really hard but I really enjoy watching Mikey.
“He’s at a football club which isn’t easy to break through at because of the money that’s spent, so you have to be a special talent to do it. Mikey and Will (Lankshear) will be patient and get game time and when they do, my advice is just keep expressing yourselves.”
