Spurs will be priced out of move for Premier League attacker – Ex-scout claims
Former Tottenham scout, Mick Brown, does not expect the Lilywhites to be able to meet the asking price for one of their top rumoured targets.
Tottenham eyeing move for PL attacker
After raiding Bournemouth for Dominic Solanke in the summer, it has been reported over recent weeks that Spurs are looking to prise away another one of the Cherries’ best players.
Various outlets have suggested that Tottenham have been impressed with the performances of Antoine Semenyo and are plotting a move for him in January (GiveMeSport).
The winger has four contributions to his name across the eight league matches so far and is contracted until 2029 at the Vitality Stadium (Transfermarkt).
Will Tottenham pay the fee for Semenyo?
A couple of days ago Football Insider reported that it would take an offer of around £40m-£50m to convince the South Coast club to part ways with Semenyo.
The publication named Spurs, Arsenal and Newcastle United as the three clubs who have shown the most interest in the Ghana international.
When asked if any of these clubs would be willing to spend £40m-£50m on the 24-year-old, Mick Brown has now told Football Insider: “No is the short answer, clubs won’t pay that price. From what I’ve seen of him, he’s improved and done better than I would have expected.
“He’s all-hearted, he gives everything he’s got and he’s very talented in possession. He’s also worked very hard to improve and step up. But will Newcastle pay £40-50million for him? Not based on what I’ve heard.
“Look at Harvey Barnes, for example, who has struggled to get into the team. Is Semenyo much better than him? They won’t pay that sort of fee if he isn’t going to be a nailed-on starter.”
Is Semenyo worth that fee?
Even though Semenyo is homegrown and has a high ceiling, his numbers for Bournemouth are not anything to write home about.
Many would feel that the winger has now shown enough to suggest that he can be a £50m player. However, the same was said about the fee that Tottenham paid for Solanke in the summer.
If Postecoglou is convinced that Semenyo would be the ideal fit for his system, one can see Spurs spending big on him, as they did with Solanke and Johnson.
