Everton want to copy what Daniel Levy has done at Tottenham
Football finance expert Stefan Borson has revealed that Everton want to copy one thing Tottenham Hotspur have done over the last few years as the Merseyside club gets ready to move into a new stadium.
Tottenham’s stadium is the envy of the Premier League
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been a game changer for the club in terms of revenue, not just because of its capacity but also due to the stadium’s design.
With the venue having a retractable pitch, it is able to host non-footballing events regularly without worrying about its proximity to Tottenham matches, with the events proving a real money-spinner for the club.
That is something Everton have paid close attention to as they get set to move into their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the start of next season.
Everton planning on copying Tottenham
Stefan Borson has claimed that the Toffees will also look to host non-football events at their new ground. He suggested that if they can follow Tottenham’s lead and get 30 event days in a year, that could significantly boost the club’s revenue.
Borson told Football Insider about Everton’s plans: “To really move the dial, you need to do what Spurs are doing, where you are trying to have 30 event days in addition to football.
“If you can get 30, that doubles the number of event days that you are getting from the stadium. You are only getting 19 home games, plus you might get some cup games.
“There is also conferencing and stuff that’s going on in the stands, which will be more days a year. But in terms of actually using the stadium, clubs are using their stadiums for a relatively small number of events at the moment.
“Obviously, if you can double that by adding 30 more major events, which let’s say are all worth £3-5 million, then clearly that is going to make a difference.”
Everton will struggle to match Tottenham
The Merseyside club will struggle to host as many high-profile concerts and sporting events as Spurs do at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Firstly, being in London gives Tottenham a big advantage as the city will host considerably more such events than Liverpool would.
Secondly, not having a retractable pitch means that the Toffees would struggle to schedule any event that comes within a day or two of an Everton game.
