Cristian Romero’s mum names club he will join eventually, but Spurs fans shouldn’t worry
Cristian Romero may be a key player for Tottenham, but there will come a day when he leaves the club. And, according to his mum, there is one team in particular he is desperate to play for.
Romero will want to go home
Before you start panicking, Spurs fans, the club in question is Club Atlético Belgrano, an Argentinian team that Romero has supported since he was a child.
The prospective transfer his mother has been discussing is likely to be a long way off, and something the defender will look to pursue when his playing career is coming to a close.
Speaking to Radio Sucesos, Romero’s mother, Rosa, said: “His lifelong dream is to succeed at Belgrano, which is still his love today. It is a pending question, and he will surely do it.”
Hopefully, he will find Belgrano in better form than they currently are. The club are third from bottom in the Argentine Primera Division, and have just one point more than the club at the foot of the table.
Madrid may come first for Romero
So, Tottenham needn’t worry about Romero jetting off to sign for his Argentinian favourites just yet. But, the Lilywhites will be well aware of Real Madrid’s reported interest in the centre-half.
Tottenham apparently rebuffed Madrid’s attempts to discuss a move for Romero in the summer, and refused to even name a price for the 26-year-old (Gaston Edul).
According to Le10Sport, though, the Spanish giants have now earmarked William Saliba as their top target for next summer, which will be a relief for Spurs fans if true.
How long will Romero stay at Spurs?
Romero himself has suggested quite strongly that he is firmly focused on being successful at Spurs and has made no secret of how much he loves the club. Still, if trophies do not arrive in the next couple of years for Romero at Tottenham, he will likely have his head turned.
