Tensions escalate in region as Israel strikes military targets in Iran
Israel’s attack on Iran has once again sparked a wave of international concerns. While the United States urged Iran not to launch a retaliatory strike, a media outlet affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that Iran is prepared to respond to the attack.
From 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM today, Saturday, October 26, Israel carried out a three-phase operation called “Day of Regret,” targeting Iran’s military centers. Israel described this as a response to recent missile attacks by Iran.
Following the attack, the United States called on Iran to refrain from retaliatory strikes. According to the BBC, citing a senior US official, “This should be the end of direct fire exchanges between Israel and Iran.”
The United Kingdom also expressed support for Israel’s right to self-defense in accordance with humanitarian principles but emphasized that “escalation of tensions in the region benefits no one.”
Meanwhile, Axios, citing informed sources, reported that Israel had communicated to Iran through diplomatic channels before the “Day of Regret” attack, urging it not to take retaliatory actions.
Although senior Iranian officials have yet to comment on the “Day of Regret” attack, Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the IRGC, reported that Iran reserves the right to respond to this attack.
On the other hand, Iranian state-affiliated media, including Tasnim, confirmed Israel’s attack but described it as “weak” and claimed that no “significant results” were reported from these strikes. This suggests that Iran has not yet adopted a retaliatory stance.
The unfolding situation highlights the delicate balance of power in the region. Despite Israel’s warning and the United States’ diplomatic pressure, Iran’s reserved response indicates an effort to avoid further escalation.
However, the potential for retaliation remains, and the international community continues to monitor the tensions closely to prevent a deeper conflict.
