Sherwood police cancel 'Hide and Seek with a Cop' event, citing safety concerns
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- After receiving mixed responses for their "Hide and Seek with a Cop" event, the Sherwood Police Department announced Friday night that they elected to cancel the event.
In a Facebook post, Sherwood police said that "recent media coverage has reshaped the perception of this event, causing concerns about safety."
"We understand how crucial it is to prioritize the well-being of both our community members and officers, and as such, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Hide and Seek with a Cop event," the post said in part. "We are disappointed, as we were truly looking forward to this opportunity to connect with you. However, our team is actively exploring new ideas for future events that will bring us together safely and supportively."
"Hide and Seek with a Cop" was supposed to occur the day before Halloween at Stella Olsen Park and garnered significant interest, with almost 70 people RSVPing to the event on Facebook, and over 200 people saying they were interested.
The event was met with a mixed reaction on social media -- with some commenters calling it a great idea and others making fun of the event. Police marketed the event as "your only chance to run from the cops without consequences."
