One person arrested, police investigating after shots fired in Shawnee
SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) — Police are investigating after gunshots rang out near Wallace and Draper in Shawnee on Tuesday night.
Tari Thomas told KFOR she was fast asleep and was woken up by the chaos unfolding outside of her home.
“It was very scary for me,” said Thomas. “There was just a lot of commotion, and then police showed up."
Shawnee Police told KFOR on Friday that two groups got into an argument.
"Which led to the shots fired,” said Cpl. Vivian Lozano-Stafford, of the Shawnee Police Department. “This is reckless, you know. It’s very dangerous.”
It’s not clear what led up to the fight or how many gunshots were fired.
"It's very disturbing to have such a big event happen out in front of your house, but not know what was going on, not know if anyone was hurt,” said Thomas. “I've been checking every day to see if there's any type of information."
Angel Atkinson also weighed in.
"I have four kids in this house,” said Atkinson. “I would like to know that we live somewhere that's safe."
20-year-old Dayton Carter has been arrested and booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail. He’s facing charges of use of vehicle to facilitate discharge of weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, first-degree robbery, and use of a firearm while committing a felony.
A juvenile was also taken into custody on use of a vehicle to facilitate the discharge of a weapon, shooting with intent to kill, and use of a firearm while committing a felony charges.
Police told KFOR they expect to make at least one more arrest.
"Our priority is the safety of our citizens, and we won't tolerate this in our city,” said Cpl. Lozano-Stafford.
Police said no one was hurt in the incident.
