Enid mother and 1-year-old attacked by pair of dogs in neighborhood
ENID, Okla. (KFOR) — On Thursday morning, Madison Ramey started her day like normal. She had breakfast with her one-year-old daughter, Maeve, and took her outside to play in their yard.
Ramey then decided they'd go on a walk and that's when things took a terrifying turn.
"As soon as they turned around and saw me, the brown one [dog] bared his teeth at me," Ramey said.
The Enid Police Department confirmed three people were injured by two dogs. Ramey was taken to a hospital to be treated for her inch-deep bites. The others declined medical treatment.
On top of recovering from the numerous bites, Ramey also had to endure several shots for Rabies.
As she reflects on the scary incident, she describes going into shock, grabbing her daughter to protect her from the pair of vicious dogs.
"I was deflecting them with this arm and just kind of letting them bite me and screaming for help, just hoping that somebody would hear me," said Ramey.
As she screamed for help, she was bitten multiple times in different places, even falling to the ground and still being attacked with her daughter tight to her chest.
Little Maeve was not bitten and has no injuries.
Enid Police rushed to the scene to help and had to shoot and kill one of the dogs.
"Officers located one of the dogs and unfortunately had to shoot the dog after it attempted to attack one of our officers," said Cass Rains, with Enid Police Department.
Authorities say both dogs were Pitbull mixes, the other one still on the loose.
News 4 went to the dog owner's home Friday afternoon, she was cited by police.
The owner says she has no idea where her other dog is.
Ramey says she loves dogs and grew up around them. She even owns a Pitbull herself, but she says this incident was a close call.
"I was so scared they were going to grab my daughter, we probably won't go on a walk without my fiancé with us for a while," Ramey said.
