Buckeyes fans can enjoy game day with these Ohio State-themed foods
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Ohio State fans are known for going all out when it comes to gameday celebrations, and this football season, there are plenty of delicious Buckeyes-themed foods to make tailgates even better.
Whether it's pizza, snacks, or sweet treats, there is something for every Buckeye enthusiast to enjoy while cheering on the Scarlet and Gray.
Central Ohio-based Donatos offers a limited-time Block O-shaped pizza with pepperoni and mozzarella. The item consists of the pizza maker's thin-crust pizza, shaped like the iconic Ohio State symbol, adding a spirited touch to tailgates. The Block O is available on the Donato's website for $11.99, or $13.99 for the extra pepperoni version. Additionally, there is a deal where the item can be added to any menu price pizza order for $10.
Burger King has also joined the Buckeyes celebration with a multi-year partnership with Ohio State athletics, launching the “Buckeye Blitz Meal Bundle” this fall. In a news release, Burger King noted the nine-item assortment is priced at $20 and is available at 290 Burger King restaurants participating in Ohio for a limited time.
A TikTok poster who reviewed the meal described it as “perfect” for families, as it includes two Whoppers, one cheeseburger, three fries and three drinks. The reviewer emphasized the nostalgia of the Whopper, calling it “iconic” despite not being the “best sandwich out there,” and highlighted the fun addition of the limited-edition Ohio State crown. “The hat’s what I came here for,” he remarked, showing off the special-edition crown that features the university's logo and colors.
The hamburger chain also offers the “Buckeyes Frozen Cherry Float” in its school-spirited lineup. The item is a “frozen beverage, featuring sweet and tart cherry-flavored frozen Coke topped with creamy vanilla ice cream,” Burger King stated.
For fans with a sweet tooth, Velvet Ice Cream, based in Utica, has created its “Buckeye Classic” flavor. According to the ice cream maker's website, the frozen treat includes peanut butter candy, chocolate fudge and peanut butter ice cream. The flavor is available at dozens of grocery and convenience stores around central Ohio.
Not to be outdone, Cincinnati's Graeter’s Ice Cream also has something special for Buckeyes fans. Its “Buckeye Blitz” ice cream, made with chocolate peanut butter ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, and dark chocolate chips, offers an indulgent option crafted in small batches using the company's signature French Pot process. Graeter's points out on its website that Ohio State and the creamy dessert maker “both had their humble beginnings” in 1870. The chocolaty indulgence is sold online, at six pints for $84.95 and 12 pints for $129.95.
Savory snacks are covered too, thanks to Ballreich’s Buckeye Tailgate Series potato chips. The special line from the Tiffin manufacturer features flavors like Buffalo Ranch, Cheddar Slider, Jalapeño Popper and Classic, all packaged in scarlet and gray striped bags inspired by Brutus Buckeye. The chips, which debuted in October 2021, are available at local grocery stores and online at $2.59 for a two and three-quarter-ounce bag and $4.49 for an eight-ounce bag.
