Ange Postecoglou has spoken about Mikey Moore’s readiness for the Premier League and his comments will delight Tottenham supporters.
Mikey Moore’s stock continues to grow
Fans were excited when they saw Moore’s name in the starting eleven against Alkmaar and the winger certainly did not disappoint.
After a relatively quiet first half, the 17-year-old exploded into life in the second period after being moved to the left wing.
The Alkmaar players were doubling up on the youngster but they were still unable to stop him as he weaved past defenders with ease and played some dangerous balls into the box.
Ange Postecoglou speaks on Moore’s readiness
It was the sort of performance that sent a clear message about his readiness for the highest level and his ability to handle the pressure that comes with playing on the big stage.
Postecoglou explained that one always needs to be careful with how young players are integrated into senior football, but the admitted that the Spurs academy graduate is now ready to start in the Premier League.
The Tottenham head coach said following Moore’s display against Alkmaar (via Football.London): “He is ready to start any game but I just feel, and especially with young players, you need to be really careful with their introduction into senior football.
“Even last year he didn’t really have a full season of football, he had quite a few injuries, a couple of injuries that kept him out and he went from playing Under-18s football to playing very little Under-21s football before we integrated him.
“You have to look at that and I think he is still physically growing and you take that into account. I think he’s ready to start a Premier League game, for sure.
“For us what we want to do is to continue to develop Mikey in the right way and give him a platform to keep improving. So far whatever we’ve asked of him he’s made a real impact and the plan is to continue to do that.”
Moore is banging the door down
Moore has delivered every time he has been handed an opportunity, playing with a level of bravery and confidence that suggests that he knows he belongs at the highest level.
There is no doubt that the winger has now leapfrogged Timo Werner in pecking order and he might soon even be pushing the likes of Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert for a regular place in the starting eleven.
