Fenerbahce chiefs were left stunned after what ETH did to ‘evidently upset’ Man Utd star last night - report
Some in the Fenerbahce hierarchy were stunned Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo had not come on sooner in the Europa League game against them last night, according to The Athletic.
They feared the worst when the first touch of the Ivory Coast international following a cross-field pass by Noussair Mazraoui took him beyond Mert Muldur.
However, the Fenerbahce left-back scythed Amad down before the Man United star could cause any damage, with the game ending 1-1.
Many had expected the 22-year-old to replace Bruno Fernandes in the starting XI after the Portuguese midfielder was sent off against FC Twente, and he was evidently upset at not starting and being left on the bench instead as Antony was subbed on before him.
Assistant coaching trio Ruud van Nistelrooy, Rene Hake and Andreas Georgson all tried to cajole him into a smile before he went on, but he still appeared forlorn despite being the first to go over to the travelling fans to applaud them after the match.
Amad has featured in 11 games across all competitions this term, starting seven times, but he wants more and would have fancied his chances of starting ahead of Antony last night.
He would not have come on had the Brazilian not gotten stretchered off after replacing Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute himself, and the winger wants to be playing every time.
Amad could have influenced the proceedings last night had he come on earlier, and it is unsurprising that the Fenerbahce chiefs were shocked at the decision to leave him on the bench for that long.
Man United return to action on Sunday with a trip to London Stadium to face struggling West Ham United, and the Ivorian will hope to get more minutes and prove himself on the pitch.
