The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 25th October) Bamford linked with St Marys move
Good Morning. It's Friday 25th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Bamford linked with St Marys move
Forgotten man Patrick Bamford could resurrect his career with Southampton in the New Year if reports in the media are to be believed. The one time England star has fallen down the pecking order, with Daniel Farke preferring Joel Piroe or Mateo Joseph to lead the line for the Whites. He's made four substitute appearances so far this season, totalling 42 minutes of game time with no obvious contribution.
Multiple injuries over the past few years have had a negative impact on both his pace and team contribution, yet his salary (rumoured to be £300,000 a month or £70k a week) make it difficult to move him on. Farke's stirring speech last week about how a fit Bamford would have won Leeds automatic promotion last season may be his kiss of death. The gaffer did exactly the same with Luke Ayling before cutting the cord on his Leeds career.
Now, Southampton have emerged as favourites to sign the 31 year old on a six month loan, with an option to make the deal permanent if successful. It would mean Leeds would need to bring a new striker in as in all likelihood Joe Gelhardt will also be sent out on loan.
Orta targets Gray loan move
Victor Orta has jumped to the head of the queue to sign Archie Gray on loan in January, with the promise of first team football with Sevilla. The £40m utility player has had mixed reviews since joining Spurs in July. Predominantly, he's been used for Tottenham's European campaign, but has only mustered 34 minutes of game time in the top flight over four substitute appearances.
Gray surprised us all for pushing for the exit door, so rumours he could return to Elland Road on loan have been met with mixed reviews. Undoubtedly the lad has a bagful of talent, but much of the hype is down to his age. If he is to return to the fold, Spurs will want him playing every week, a promise that Victor Orta has already made.
Whites mulling over Saltzburg starlet
Leeds are being linked with a move for RB Salzburg forward and Danish Youth International Adam Daghim as a replacement for Patrick Bamford. Daghim 19, a €2.8m (£2.3m) signing from Uwe Rosler's Aarhus Gymnastikforening last year has bagful's of potential, but has yet to make his mark with the seventeen time Austrian Champions. He's managed just nine league appearances in fourteen months, though looks to be first choice this season.
Predominantly, he plays as an inverted right winger / third striker. His strength, speed and versatility make him a sought after future prospect. Saltsburg want £5m for their rising star.
